England rest key trio ahead of Champions Trophy

South Africa were cruising on 95 without loss in the 15th over of their chase before Amla became Roland-Jones' first worldwide wicket and Jake Ball dismissed Quinton De Kock and Faf Du Plessis in quick succession.

Despite losing three wickets at 101, Duminy and captain AB de Villiers took South Africa home easily. South Africa bowled beautifully and they did not give us anything to hit.

The Proteas lost their three-match series to England 2-1, but Rabada's haul of 4/39 in the final match on Monday helped him finish the series with seven wickets.

Morne Morkel, back in the side, bowled four overs for 15 runs, as he looks to get up to speed before the Champions Trophy. England would have possibly been out for an embarrasing total had it not been a fighting half century from wicket-keeper batsman Jonny Bairstow.

The Middlesex man, who was left high and dry at the end as Maharaj snuffed out Jake Ball and Finn with minimal fuss, will look more fondly on his maiden global wicket as Amla chopped on to his stumps after the post-interval resumption.

England, who are hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, are being hailed as pre-tournament favourites and their performance in the first two matches of the ongoing series have done no harm to their reputation.

With pride at stake, South Africa took on England in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at Lord's.

Morgan said that the Proteas deserve a lot of credit for the way they bowled in the first five overs.

Under a thick blanket of cloud, Jason Roy was the first to go, edging Kagiso Rabada to Hashim Amla at first slip.

Ben Stokes would be the first to say England are more than a one-man team but if anyone sums up their revival in limited overs cricket it is the dynamic Durham all-rounder.

Earlier, England crumbled against Rabada and Parnell.

Worse followed for the hosts as Parnell ran a length ball down the slope to find the edge of Eoin Morgan's bat and Alex Hales drove loosely at only his second ball.

England's captain Eoin Morgan, however, said his team were unaware of any suggestion that the ball had been scuffed up.

Next ball, England's 20 for five became 20 for six when Adil Rashid, even more recklessly, attempted a huge drive and edged to du Plessis for a golden duck.

Thereafter Bairstow and Willey steadied things before the latter slapped Parnell to cover on 26, his highest ODI score.

But Bairstow, stumped charging down the wicket on 51, Jake Ball and Steven Finn fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj as the innings was wrapped up in 31 overs.

Bairstow has staked a strong claim for a regular place in the line-up with three half-centuries in his last four innings and, since the World Cup, has lifted his average by nearly 85 per cent and his strike rate by 22 per cent.
