Sevilla tells Argentina it must pay to take Sampaoli

Bauza's eight-month tenure with Argentina ended after a 2-0 defeat in Bolivia in March that left the two-time world champions' hopes of qualification for Russian Federation 2018 in the balance.

Sevilla said the agreement rested on the drawing up and presentation of relevant documents, which should be signed by both parties on June 1.

Sevilla and the Argentine Football Association (AFA) have reached an agreement in principle to release manager Jorge Sampaoli from his contract so he can become head coach of Argentina.

Assuming everything goes to plan, Santa Fe-native Sampaoli will seal his return to global management just a year after leaving his post in charge of Chile.

"In the conversations between Sevilla and the AFA, who served as representatives of Jorge Sampaoli, the fixed amount for the termination of the coach's contract was not discussed at any time".

Castro says "we are only contemplating the complete clause of 1.5 million, there is no other way".

Under Sampaoli, Sevilla finished fourth in La Liga and sealed a place in Champions League qualifying for the 2017-18 campaign.

"All parties are satisfied by the agreement that has been reached".

The AFA recently named a squad of players competing overseas for next month's global friendlies but are keen to tie Sampaoli as soon as possible.

Argentina will now hope to have Sampaoli in place before the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Singapore in June.

Now the 57-year old has a hard task ahead of him to win Argentina's remaining games and qualify automatically for the World cup.
