'Dancing With The Stars' finale begins

"You know, are you going to go with the dancer, are you going to go with the person who's improved a lot, are you going to go with the heart?" Save for some sort of enormous nationwide power failure or the literal apocalypse, there was seemingly no way the Fifth Harmony songbird could come up short.

David Ross, Normani Kordei and Rashad Jennings all head into the finale, having had to prepare a 24-hour fusion routine to be judge live on the last episode of the season.

She had previously suffered a minor ankle injury during rehearsals, but that didn't stop the judges from loving this dance. It featured David's strength and good cheer, with some impressive tricks. Hough said the fans were behind him.

"You're the one with the momentum going into tomorrow night", Judge Len Goodman said of the high-octane number in which Jennings looked similar to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. "And because [we] have such high expectations of you, I definitely saw [mistakes]". However, all judges commented on David's ability to not only work exceptionally hard, but make a true connection to his partner and everyone watching.

Yes, his Viennese waltz was an improvement upon earlier in the season, and he's always charismatic on the floor, but his footwork was clunky, his knees were stiff, and there was no smooth rise and fall. David is all about family and became a second dad to Lindsay. But really, everyone focused their comments on something along the lines of "It's really insane that you made it to the finals, but we all love you!" Jennings earned flawless points in that round, too.

Welcome back my Dancing With The Stars fans. Normani and Val and Rashad and Emma similarly earned 40/40 from the judges for their performances! And let the debate begin. It's like, there are no more weeks. Val claims she's one of the best female stars the show has ever seen. Lucky for her, there weren't many to find.

Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei went a poignant route with a heartfelt dance to "What the World Needs Now Is Love". Entering the night in second place on the leader board, the pair knew they had their work cut out for them, if they wanted to surpass the leaders, National Football League running back Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater. And that really worked for us because our strongest dance this season was our waltz when we danced to "Humble and Kind" by Tim McGraw. Julianne Hough called them the most consistent couple of the season, but admitted she wanted more body contact; Len agreed that it wasn't flawless and saw too much "running around".

LA: I've come to realize that I care more about my personal journey than comparing it to others.

Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater dance a Viennese waltz on Monday's part-one finals of "Dancing with the Stars".

Host Tom Bergeron took a moment at the end of the show to acknowledge the deadly explosion at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, which killed at least 19 and injured almost 50 people Monday night. Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy were knocked out of the No. 1 spot on the leaderboard in the semifinals and they're still there after the first part of the two-part finale. "Never won a playoff game, never won a championship".

Unless David Ross wins. He told Emma he wanted to help choreograph a bit of the final dance.
