Trump announces plans to soon visit Egypt

May 21 U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday he hoped to visit Egypt, after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during a trip to the Saudi capital Riyadh.

The bilateral relations between Egypt and USA worsened during Trump's predecessor Barrack Obama's administration after the Egyptian military ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in 2013.

Moments after Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi complimented President Donald Trump on his "unique personality that is capable of doing the impossible", Trump exchanged pleasantries back, praising el Sisi's shoes.

Sisi called the USA president " a unique personality who is capable of the impossible".

Trump's arrival on Saturday marked his first foreign visit, as he embarked on a tour of the Middle East and Europe.

Sisi had "done a tremendous job under trying circumstance", Trump added.

Trump will also participate in the Arab-Islamic-American Summit and will meet with leaders of over 50 Arab and Islamic states to discuss cooperation in confronting extremism and global terrorism.

"We bring the world together to fight extremism and terrorism", the statement read.

Sisi has been keen to have United States and European leaders visit the country, particularly after Egypt's short-lived isolation due to the 2013 military coup and reports of dire human rights abuses.

Trump responded "I agree!" drawing chuckles from aides present in the room.

Reversing the stance of his predecessor President Obama, Trump had given Sisi a warm welcome at the White House in April, one of a series of friendly overtures to strongman-style leaders.
