Moto Z2 Play to sacrifice battery life for slimmer body

Moto Z2 Play to sacrifice battery life for slimmer body

It might perform just fine with the modest hardware, but the battery life is what made the Moto Z Play special.

Lenovo is in a phase of remodeling its device catalog. He claims, based on seeing some unreleased marketing material, that the Moto Z2 Play will only have a 3,000 mAh battery, which will last up to one day and six hours. Back then, the smartphone was believed to be the upgraded version of the original Moto Z Play that was announced in the a year ago. However, it remains to be seen how consumers will react to Lenovo's decision to compromise with the handset's battery life to get a slimmer form factor. One of the most notable aspects from the photograph that was revealed was the thickness of the equipment.

Lenovo-owned Motorola is working on a follow-up to the Moto Z Play, but it might not be as awesome as the original. However, the first leak did not clarify anything in this sense since the dimensions were not filtered.

If the leaks turn out to be true, then Motorola could be looking at a product with the capacity of moving the market by storm, just like the Moto Z series of smartphones. In total the battery capacity will be 3,000 mAh, a figure that supposes a significant reduction compared to the 3,510 mAh that counted the previous model. This brings the phone's usage time down to 30 hours from 50 hours we had previously seen. Unlike its predecessor featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor running eight cores at 2.0GHz, the Z2 Play will be powered by a Snapdragon 626 system-on-chip running the same number of cores but at 2.2GHz clock speed. Although, the screen will remain a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED.

Finally, while the front-facing 5-megapixel selfie cam on the Z2 Play is largely the same as on the original, Motorola is opting to reduce the resolution of the main camera but increasing its imaging quality. It'll probably be among the first to be launched as part of Motorola's 2017 lineup, perhaps alongside the Moto Z2 and Moto Z2 Force.
