NY governor condemns U.S. anti-Semitism on Israel trip

Governor Cuomo appointed Mr.

On Sunday Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a new organization created to improve economic and cultural relations between NY and Israel.

"I am going to put together a commission of people who will work on economic development between NY and Israel", Cuomo said. "Through the launch of the New York-Israel Commission, Governor Cuomo is once again working to deliver results for two global powerhouses by further strengthening their economic ties". "With the recent rise of anti-Semitism, it is more important than ever before to demonstrate the connection between NY and Israel, our intertwined histories and our common futures, and spearhead new economic partnerships to bring our communities closer together". "New York's principles are built on a rock, they will not change, and the political wind will not change them." he said.

The governor flew out Saturday afternoon and will arrive in Israel Sunday morning in the company of five staffers and a handful of Jewish leaders from NY, including Allen Fagin of the Orthodox Union, who introduced the governor Wednesday at the event at The Egg where Cuomo announced the trip. Rivlin also said Israel appreciated US President Donald Trump's condemnation of the attacka, as well as words and actions taken by Vice President Mike Pence, who went to a Jewish cemetery in St. Louis that was vandalized.

Cuomo's ' words came just hours after a number of headstones in a Jewish cemetery in Brooklyn were overturned.

"We can never, ever, let that change", he added.

Cuomo, who returns to New York Monday, will also meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, tour the Western Wall and attend a security briefing at Jerusalem's Old City Police Headquarters. "We applaud his recent efforts on behalf of the security of the Jewish community, the interests of the New York State non-public school community, and the State of Israel".

This is Cuomo's second trip to Israel as Governor.
