Iran Tests Cruise Missile in Arabian Gulf

The Iranian marine commandos and special naval forces had trained in confronting "possible enemy aggression" on Iran's coast and used "state-of-the-art weapons and equipment" during the exercise, Iran's Fars news reported. The shipping lanes in the Gulf and nearby waters are protected by the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, which is based in the region. It showed Iranian warships and helicopters taking part in the exercise.

Ahmadinejad's letter, which was published by Iranian media outlets, stated that Trump won the election while he "truthfully described the USA political system and electoral structure as corrupt". A little later, the USA imposed new sanctions on Iran targeting 13 people and 12 companies and explained that Tehran's "continued support for terrorism and development of its ballistic missile program poses a threat to the region".

Iran's foreign ministry decried the new USA sanctions as "illegitimate". Throughout his election campaign, Trump accused the Obama administration of being weak on Iran, and he vowed to crack down if elected.

Global sanctions on Tehran were lifted in January of a year ago under a nuclear deal brokered in 2015 by Britain, France, Germany, China, Russia and the United States.

Iran has acknowledged that it conducted a missile test.

Waterways that run alongside the Yemeni and Iranian coastlines are where millions of oil barrels pass through on the way to Asia, Europe and the United States. We don't respond well to sanctions, but we respond very well to mutual respect.

Former President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent a long letter to President Trump on Sunday in which he criticized the travel ban that the US President tried to impose on seven Muslim-majority nations - one of which was Iran. However, numerous reports have suggested that Tehran has violated the nuclear deal on several occasions since the summer of 2015.
