Australia's Dreamworld theme park to REOPEN after 4 ride deaths

Craig Davidson, CEO of Dreamworld, announces that the park will reopen on December 10 after four adults died when the park's Thunder River Rapids ride malfunctioned.

Park owner Ardent Leisure Group told the Australian Securities Exchange on Wednesday that Dreamworld on Queensland state's Gold Coast will reopen to the public with several of its rides operating on December 10.

Four visitors to the park - New Zealander Cindy Low, Kate Goodchild, her brother Luke Dorsett and his partner Roozbeh Araghi - were killed on 25 October when two rafts collided on the Thunder River Rapids near a large conveyor belt at the end of the ride.

Other rides will progressively open at Dreamworld as they are signed off by the safety review process, the park said.

"Once we're all satisfied, confident in all of those safety aspects of those rides we will start to operate them, and that will be brought back online at an ongoing basis", said Mr Davidson.

"These expert safety and engineering teams are continuing to work through each section of Dreamworld and WhiteWater World and we are confident of being able to announce a reopening date for both parks very soon".

Ardent Leisure's board will meet first thing tomorrow to discuss reopening the park, and must then inform the ASX of their decision.

The Claw and Tower of Terror are yet to a pass "a four-tier safety review", while Thunder River Rapids ride has been permanently decommissioned.

"All of Whitewater World's slides, pools and cabanas will be open as will several of Dreamworld's rides and attractions", the statement said.

"These funds will be distributed to those affected by the tragedy through the GIVIT Appeal independent distribution committee".

As well as that lost revenue, the park has had to incur operating costs of up to $4.2m for the month while one-off costs associated with the tragedy are expected to be about $1.6m.

A coroner is now investigating the accident.
