Kellogg pulls ads from Breitbart over company 'values'

The company's executive chairman, Steve Bannon, who is on a leave of absence, was Trump's campaign manager and has been named chief White House strategist.

Breitbart is claiming its headlines - and not the content underneath them - is the reason advertisers and many others are boycotting them, but NCRM for many years has reported on the site's content. They include pharmaceutical manufacturer Novo Nordisk, eyeglasses maker Warby Parker and the San Diego Zoo.

To illustrate how the system works, Allstate responded to a consumer's objection over its advertising on the site like so in one direct message on Twitter: "We appreciate your concern regarding our advertising appearing on the website Breitbart News".

The fact that numerous companies apparently didn't know that their ads were appearing there seems to highlight how new ad technologies have loosened companies' grip over their brand's associations. As a result, many companies may not be aware of which sites on which their ads ultimately appear.

So-called "alt right" news website Breitbart is asking its readers to boycott Kellogg's after the brand said it was going to pull ads from its website.

"Kellogg's decision to blacklist one of the largest conservative media outlets in America is economic censorship of mainstream conservative political discourse". "That is as un-American as it gets".

Activists organized by groups such as Media Mattes for America and the Southern Poverty Law Center used memes, social media and good old-fashioned calling to target a number of advertisers, not just Kellogg's, in hopes of getting them to stop advertising on the site, which they say promotes racist, sexist and xenophobic views.

While the hard-right news and commentary site isn't peddling porn, gambling or other types of content that would make typical advertising buyers cringe, it is one of the most widely read publishers of misogynist, anti-Semitic, anti-LGBT, fat-shaming and other hateful content.

Breitbart News Network CEO Larry Solov told Bloomberg earlier in the month via email that his website "has always and continues to condemn racism and bigotry in any form".

The TubeMogul rep added that its quality-assurance team has been instructed to monitor Breitbart for other brand-safety categories in addition to hate speech and offensive language that advertisers may be concerned with.

Breitbart said Kellogg was denigrating "to its own detriment" a loyal and engaged community of consumers who helped elect Trump, saying the site had 45 million unique visitors in the last thirty days.
