Obama Had The Perfect Answer For Trump's Black Communities Comment

Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Florida.

With less than 50 days before Election Day, Trump has made frequent attempts at reaching out to minority voters.

'What have you got to lose?' he asked Tuesday, speaking to a almost all-white audience but playing to cameras.

"You're living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed - what the hell do you have to lose?" he said at an August rally in MI, which many interpreted as condescending, misinformed and overly broad. You have no jobs.

Trump also used to regularly state that 58 percent of African-American youth were unemployed, though his explanation of that figure indicated that he included a larger sample than typically recognized, many of whom would be full-time students not actively looking for work. What do you have to lose?

President Barack Obama dismissed the recent violence and destruction in Charlotte, North Carolina by rioters reacting to the shooting of an armed African-American man by an African-American police officer.

His comments came despite the fact that African-Americans in the USA have faced dramatically worse circumstances throughout history - from slavery to Jim Crow laws.

Short said police in Charlotte has a history of carrying out "executions" of African Americans that do not get media coverage at all.

Let's start with unemployment.

Trump's support with African-Americans stands in the low single digits according to recent national polls. "When the train speeds up, the caboose speeds up". Trump said at the energy conference.

"There's a lack of spirit between the white and the black". They're not making a statement. The gap between blacks and whites was seven years in 1990. That is tragic. But between 1882 and 1931, there were 3,318 black people lynched.

Trump's black outreach has been hit-or-miss.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Thursday expressed admiration regarding police tactics and condemned attacks on officers amid criticism of his plan to use "stop-and-frisk" tactics to reduce crime.

On Trump's quest to win over African-American voters, Obama quipped: "Well, we do have challenges, but we're not stupid".

"These comments are meant to assure these voters that Trump is a not racist, but that he's concerned about the black community and that he has a set of policy recommendations that will help the black community", Dawson said.

"If you are talented and intellectual, you are an intellectual negro", King said.

"The community deserves answers and (a) full investigation will ensue", she said on Twitter, adding in a subsequent post, "I want answers too".

Missing some content? Care to comment? Trump had indicated King would address the gathering, but RNC officials reportedly nixed that idea, due to King's manslaughter conviction.
