Several Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Explosion Claims Debunked Or Remain Unconfirmed

A man walks by an advertisement of the Samsung Electronics Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in Seoul, South Korea, Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016.

The refund program was scheduled to end Monday, but the Korean government asked Samsung to extend the refund period for the Note 7s to the end of this month.

An official with the agency, Nam Taek-joo, said Samsung's "plan to remove hazards in the markets is insufficient".

According to the recall plan approved by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), Samsung's battery supplier has to use an X-ray test for every lithium battery created for the Note 7 before shipping them to Samsung.

"We acknowledge the inconvenience this may have caused in the market, but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to Samsung customers".

The Galaxy Note 7 phone went on sale in August to glowing reviews but has now become Samsung's biggest crisis in years. "It appears that consumers are not active in seeking an exchange or a refund". However, an early release of the update could do the company wonders in terms of their current public relations status as the company is still reeling from the whole Note 7 exploding battery controversy.

The product safety agency said Samsung had also agreed to send text messages to individual Note 7 users who still have not exchanged their possible unsafe phones for new ones.

If reports are to be believed, Samsung has strategically chose to place its launch date around the festive season in India, which is home to world's second largest smartphone market.

Samsung shipped over 500,000 new Galaxy Note 7 replacement units to US carrier and retail stores. In their home country of South Korea, Samsung got out in front of the issue quickly by doing a voluntary recall.
