The Amazon Echo is finally being released in the UK and Germany

A new white version of the speaker has also been introduced for the European debut, to sit alongside the original black model.

Today, Amazon confirmed that its virtual assistant Echo speakers will be coming to the United Kingdom and Germany this autumn.

The Amazon Echo will also be able to control appliances like light switches, coffee machines and TVs as well as stream music and answer questions using internet searches.

Amazon says its speakers will not upload sounds to its servers unless they hear a wake word.

With that, Amazon are selling a robot assistant which can control your whole house, in the UK! With a good customer response from all the Echo customers, it is being touted that new Echo Dot would be another great product in the line of Alexa powered devices. That way, you can have Alexa available in all of your most-used rooms. According to Amazon, thousands of third party developers are also building new skills for Alexa. It comes equipped with Alexa for all of your voice-activated needs, is small enough to be tucked away on a shelf, and can even be paired with your home speakers for a better audio experience.

The Echo, which has been available in the USA since June 2015, is a 23.5 cm tall cylindrical speaker - similar in appearance to the UE Megaboom - with a seven-piece microphone array. When you're ready for bed you can simply tell Alexa to turn off the lights. Just like Siri, but only if the voice assistant is a speaker.

Now there are 3,000 in United States and there will be some UK specific ones.

The button sends the order directly to Amazon, which deducts the price from your account and delivers it straight to your door. The two devices launched in the UK today for £149.99 and £49.99 respectively and are available to pre-order on the Amazon UK website. If you think that's a swell idea, you can get a six pack for the price of five or a 12 pack for the price of 10, depending on the size of your abode.
